Welcome to the first instalment of the autumn 2019 issue of The High Window. It does seem hard to believe that this is the 15th issue! As ever, there is a bumper crop of recent poetry by new and established figures with, again, almost equal representation between male and female poets. Pleasing, too, is the increasing number of new collections being submitted by women.
Having recently discovered the wonderful American poet, Ted Kooser, I am extremely proud to be able to publish a generous selection of unpublished poems which will be featured in his next collection. This initial instalment is completed by artwork from S. A. Leavesley in which she is inspired by poems featured in The High Window.
This month The High Window Press is publishing three new collections to coincide with this issue. The books are Out of The Blue: Selected Poems by Wendy Klein, The Unmaking by Tim O’Leary and Building a Kingdom: New and Selected Poems, 1989-2019 by James W. Wood. They are all now available on the Press page and are in the process of being made available on Amazon.
Finally, I will be publishing the remaining sections of the autumn issue in another week or two. This will include a substantial set of translations from Kazakh published in collaboration with Cambridge University Press, the featured UK poet, an essay on scientists and their poetry, along with a very full reviews section.
